Even Goldfish Need Swim Lessons – A Local Family-Friendly Approach to Water Safety

Our guest post today features Goldfish Swim School.

Here’s a startling fact to consider:

According to the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 1 to 4.

A child can drown in as little as one inch of water and in as little time as 20 seconds.

Moreover, statistics show that thousands of children are hospitalized each year for nonfatal drowning incidents, with a significant number sustaining lifelong, profound, permanent brain damage.

Scary, yes, but these statistics are preventable, and it all starts with swim lessons!Goldfish Swim School

Goldfish Swim School is the premier learn-to-swim facility for kids ages 4 months to 12 years. Their core focus is to teach kids how to be safer in and around the water while making the experience golden. Goldfish was created by parents, for parents, with the goal of helping kids build essential swim skills to keep them safer in and around the water.

But the program does more than that – it gives kids a platform to build life skills that help them make waves in life.

Goldfish Swim School

Co-owner Kim Robinson has been a Goldfish mom for 11 years – since the very first Goldfish opened in Birmingham, MI. She shares:

I worked in a corporate environment for my entire career and have always wanted to do something that had a direct, positive influence on families. As my husband, Jim, and I were talking about what that meant and how it could impact our family, the opportunity to become a Goldfish Franchisee was presented and we have not looked back!

At Goldfish, we embrace what we call The Science of SwimPlay®, a research-based philosophy that teaches through guided play in a fun, safe environment. So while we’re focused on the serious stuff, kids are focused on the fun. The fact is, your child’s potential is in there. Sometimes, you just need to add water.

A lot of people probably remember swim lessons when they were kids as not a great experience – the pool was cold, the facility wasn’t inviting.

When Goldfish was being developed, the founders wanted to make sure that they were designing everything with kids in mind.

Bright colors to stimulate learning and a 90-degree pool with 92-degree air to increase comfort. Private changing rooms so moms don’t have to bring their sons into the women’s locker room. They incorporated swimsuit dryers and hair drying stations so no one has to go outside cold and wet.

Harsh chlorine can add to a negative experience, so they knew they needed a different solution. Goldfish produces their chlorine on-site via a specialty salt water purification system that allows them to keep the pool safe and clean while being gentle on kids’ skin. They know how important those things are to kids and families.

Everything Goldfish Swim School does supports their mission “To teach children how to swim and be safer in the water while making the experience Golden!”
