Bright Body Product Review
Bright Body Flaxseed & Oat Protein Curly Hair Gel

I am a bonafide product junkie.

I haven’t always been that way, but over the course of my career styling hair, I have definitely become one. So when I was presented the opportunity to review some new, handmade, local skin and hair products, it was a no-brainer.

The Bright Body line is a small-batch brand produced right here in Richmond. Their tagline is “Passionately Researched, Lovingly Made.” The products are made from organic ingredients and essential oils—considered a more natural line. After some intake questions from the owner, she selected products for me to try based on my skin and hair type.

Skin Care

Gentle Toner for Sensitive Skin:

This product is to be used on a clean, dry face and is meant to reduce redness and shrink pores. It does feel nice on the skin, but the smell is a bit strong. The apple cider vinegar in the formula is a little too fragrant for me.

Light Facial Cream:

This product is made from shea butter and has a light lavender scent. It has a very thick consistency and has to be rubbed in really well. It was very moisturizing and kept my skin soft.

Hair Care

Oat & Aloe Hair Cleanser:

This is a creamy, low-suds shampoo. It has a pleasant rosemary and peppermint scent. I have no problem with low-suds; in fact, as a stylist, I know that a big thick lather usually means that a shampoo has a lot of detergent which is a bad thing for your hair as it strips moisture and can be very drying. This shampoo worked well for me.

Post Wash Herbal Lemon Rinse:

To be used after cleansing the hair, this rinse sits on the hair for a few minutes. This one also had a strong vinegar scent which is hard for me to get past. It did make my hair shiny, but I was not crazy about the way it made my hair feel. I really like a conditioner product to detangle and soften, and I didn’t get that with this rinse.

Moisture Locking Curl Spray:

Very nice lavender smell with this one. I like how it feels in my hair, but the directions say to spritz warm water over your hair after applying it. To me, that extra step is annoying for a client.

Flaxseed & Oat Protein Curly Hair Gel:

This is my favorite product of the bunch. It feels great in my hair, was very moisturizing, and gave my curls softness. I love the texture and consistency and would use this in my daily routine.

To summarize…

I think this is a line with a lot of potential. Some of the scents could be adjusted to be more appealing, but overall I like that they are made from essential oils.

I prefer the hair styling products to the hair cleansing products. The skin care was simple and effective. And being able to customize the line to each client’s specific hair and skin needs is a big plus.

If you want a more natural product line, Bright Body is worth checking out.
