My Favorite Kids Books

0

Growing up, my parents read several books to me almost every night. I believe this led to a lifelong love for reading, education, school, and yes…books. As we move into spring and cleaning out our children’s collections, I wanted to suggest a few gems to look for on those shelves. (Spring cleaning blog to come!) If you do not have them yet, you could pick them up! Some of them were my favorites, and some of them my beautiful five year old, Rocky, suggested.

My Favorite Children’s Picture Book

“If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”

Love that this book is full of natural consequences and has a progressive story line. It also brings to mind the need to be thankful for what you have and to not always want more.

My Daughter’s Favorite Picture Book

“Let’s Sing a Lullaby with the Brave Cowboy”

This book really helped my daughter with nightmares and going to bed. She gained the understanding that the mind can be tricky; there isn’t always something scary lurking in the corner. Even if there is something scary, like a spider, it is not going to eat you.

My Favorite Chapter Book to Read Together

“Nancy Drew: The Secret of the Old Clock”

It was incredible reading this series with my parents when I was growing up. It made me feel special to share it with them. And because the books had some photos, I found myself driven to read to the next picture, which was fun and motivating.

My Daughter’s Favorite Chapter Book

“The Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh”

The heffalump story gets her every time, but she loves using her imagination to dive into the same world as Christopher Robin. I often find her sharing play time with imaginary friends just as he did. She will try to cheer me up if I am having an “Eeyore Day,” and she loves to learn and be smart like owl.

What are your favorite books to share with your family? I would love to see in the comments so that we can explore some of your choices and share them on our Facebook page for other moms to enjoy!
